The New Majority Index (NMI) offers a comprehensive measurement of the competitiveness of a US Congressional District or state, relative to the nation overall.

Introducing a more comprehensive index

Unlike the Cook Partisan Voting Index (PVI) or DPI, the inputs to the NMI are not limited to past voter behavior. Rather, NMI incorporates measurements of the support within the district or state by members of the electorate that did not participate in the most recent federal electoral cycles. By including these additional inputs, it provides a more comprehensive picture of a district or state’s competitiveness.
